Commitment

A commitment is the total amount you’ve promised to send to a fund. It’s different from how much has been called or sent so far.

Example: You commit $100,000. In year one the fund calls 30%, or $30,000. You owe $70,000 more, callable over the remaining years.

Knowing the language helps you follow the conversation. Knowing what to ask is how you participate in it.

Understanding the terms is a first step. The Aligned Capital Program uses them to teach you how to evaluate a fund and prepare the questions to ask its manager.
