MOIC (Multiple on Invested Capital)

MOIC (multiple on invested capital) is the total value realized, plus any value still held when stated on an unrealized basis, divided by the capital invested. Usage varies between a single deal and an entire fund, so check the numerator, the denominator, and whether fees are included. MOIC doesn’t account for time.

Example: An investment costing $100 million and later worth $300 million has a gross MOIC of 3.0x.
